(Grand Rapids, MI) – Concordia women's soccer traveled to Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon to compete in the first round of the WHAC playoffs.  The Cardinals received the #5 seed after the season while the Golden Eagles checked in as the #4 seed.  CUAA battled hard and tried to erase an early 2-goal deficit, but Cornerstone was able to hang on for a 2-1 win.

Anna Roman started in goal, making 3 saves in the contest.  Samantha Golchuk took the first shot on goal and Kendra Lewis fired a corner kick as the Cardinals attacked early.  Cornerstone scored first off an own goal by the Cardinals in the 26th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.  Concordia continued to work the ball downfield with Kelsie Montroy taking a late shot that went wide, but CUAA trailed by a goal at halftime.

The Golden Eagles extended their lead with a goal in the 50th minute.  The Cardinals continued to look for opportunities with Danielle Bracken taking a corner kick and later directing a header just wide of the net.  Bracken finally broke the shutout with a goal in the 87th minute, finding a seam through the defense and firing a shot in the goal.  However, the Cardinals ran out of time and fell by a final score of 2-1.

The Cardinals conclude their unusual season at 5-6 overall with the team playing official games in the fall and spring due to COVID.
