(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer hosted Lourdes on Saturday afternoon in a WHAC conference matchup. The Cardinals entered 2-1 overall while the Gray Wolves came in 0-4. CUAA overcame an early 1-0 deficit to unleash their late game heroics scoring two goals in the last seven minutes of the game. Goals by Samantha Golchuk and Kendra Lewis lifted the Cardinals 2-1 over the Gray Wolves in dramatic fashion.
A defensive miscue by the Cardinals gave the Gray Wolves an 1-0 advantage just five minutes into the game. Abigail Mann scored the breakaway goal for the Gray Wolves.
The Cardinals attempted to event the match in the first half with two corner kicks and four shots on goal but to no avail.
The Cardinals continued to raise their intensity and activity levels throughout the second half. Samantha Golchuk and Kendra Lewis led the offensive attack early firing a flurry of shots in the first 10 minutes of second half. Once again the Cardinals came up empty as the Grey Wolves defensive remained strong.
The Grey Wolves looked to increase their advantage on a shot attempt by Mann in the 72' minute but Hayley Jacobson hauled in one of her five saves on the game.
The fireworks began in the 84th minute when Golchuk came to the rescue for the Cardinals. Golchuk came running in from the right side of the box as Isabel Stropich launched a 22 yard free kick in front of the goal. Golchuk's foot one-timed the Stropich serve as the ball found the back right of the net to even the match, 1-1.
Kendra Lewis stuck to the script providing a game winning goal for the second consecutive game. Similar to the Siena Heights game, the assist came from Golchuk as she placed a serve over the defense to a streaking Lewis. As time was expiring, Lewis one-timed the serve finding the top left of the goal leading to a game winning celebration by the Cardinals at center-field.
The win improved the Cardinals record to 3-1 overall. They will conclude the first part of their schedule next Saturday, October 31st when they face Lawrence Tech at Blue Devils Stadium. The match is set to begin at 7pm.
