Lena Korte takes home WHAC Field Athlete of the Week

(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced their player of the week honors Monday afternoon and Women's Track and Field athlete Lena Korte would earn the first honors of her Cardinal career. 

 

Korte, a sophomore from Clinton, Michigan, continued her strong track and field season at the Bill Bippes Classic on Friday with first, second, and 12th-place finishes at the event. Lena finished in first place in the Shot Put event with a throw of 12.46 meters (40' 10.5"), while taking second place in the Javelin with her throw of 34.74 meters ( 114' 0"). In her final event, she tossed 35.83 meters (117' 7") in the discus event. Her throws in the Shot Put and Javelin were both a school record while also achieving NCCAA qualifying mark status. 

 

Korte and the Track and Field teams will be back in action this weekend as they will be competing at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational on Saturday with events beginning at 12 PM.
