WHAC PREVIEW: Women's Track and Field set to compete at the WHAC Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals women's track and field team heads to Siena Heights for the site of the 2023 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Outdoor Championships this week.

FIELD EVENTS

Six different events will fill up the Cardinal's schedule of Track events as CUAA will see competitors in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Hammer Throw, and Javelin. 

 

The Long Jump event will feature Aaliyah McIntosh and Madalyn Ankoviak. McIntosh is the only one of the two who will be entering with a recorded jump this year with a 4.01-meter jump. 

 

Ankoviak will also compete in the Triple Jump and has yet to appear in a meet in that event this season. 

 

The Throwing events will feature five different CUAA athletes appearing in the events as Elsa Clausen, Lena Korte, Quinn Stefanski, Julia Hirt, and Morgan Jenkins will all throw at the event. 

 

Competing in the Shot Put will be Calusen, Korte, and Stefanski. Korte, who holds the school record, has a throw of 13.50 meters as Stefanski and Clausen are behind her with throws of 10.11 meters and 9.91 meters. 

 

Julia Hirt, who placed second in the conference last season and holds the school record, is one of two Cardinals competing in the Discus event. She has a top throw of 41.95 meters and Clausen will also compete with a top throw of 30.04 meters.

 

The biggest throw event for the Cardinals is the Hammer Throw as four athletes will compete. Jenkins leads the pack with a top throw of 40.46, which is the current school record. Korte, Stefanski, and Clausen follow Jenkins as they have throws of 39.17 meters, 37.26 meters, and 36.07 meters this season. 

 

The final throw event will be the Javelin and that will see Korte competing in her third event of the meet. She holds the school record with a throw of 36.57 meters. 

 


TRACK EVENTS

The Cardinals will have runners in eight different races as well as three relay teams. The individual races consist of the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles, 800-meter run, 5,000-meter run, 10,000-meter run, and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The Cards will have teams in the 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, and the 4x800- meter relay. 

 

Running in the shorter events will be Aaliyah McIntosh, Hope Renfer, and Chloe Evans. McIntosh and Renfer will take part in the 100-meter dash with times of 14.16 and 13.41 respectively. Evans enters the 400-meter dash at 1:05.10 seconds. 

 

The long-distance races will see Chloe Gunter (800 meters), Mary Salem (800 meters), Alison Doerr (5,000 meters), and Amanda Fogo (10,000 meters) run at the event. Gunter and Salem in the 800-meter race have times of 2:41.61 and 2:43.60 respectively. Doerr has a time of 22:31.80 in the 5,000-meter race and Fogo has not run the 10,000-meter race this season. 

 

Two hurdlers will compete in the Hurdle races as Emily Belinsky will compete in both the 100-meter (16.31 seconds) and 400-meter race (1:12.91 seconds), while Madisyn Flamini will just compete in the 400-meter race (1:19.15 seconds). 

 

The 4x100 meter relay will see Renfer, Evans, Belinsky, and Lily Kueber run with a seed time of 52.94 seconds. The 4x800 relay team will run for the first time as Gunter, Fogo, Doerr, and Salem all will run. The final race of the meet in th 4x400 relay sees Belinsky, Renfer, Evans, and Gunter enter with a time of 4:31.11.
