Women's Track and Field puts on strong showing at Alumni Legacy Meet

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Women's track and field team got to compete in front of family, friends, and alumni at the Alumni Legacy meet at the Thunder track on campus. The team came away with 3 first-place finishes, 1 second-place, and 3 third-place finishes. While also picking up 1 school record, 2 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) qualifiers, and 9 personal records.

Lena Korte (sophomore; Clinton, MI) once again broke the school record on her way to an overall win in the shot put. Korte moved the record to 13.50 meters. Sophomore Julia Hirt (Hartland, WI) made her collegiate debut in the shot put, with a finish of 11th place with a distance of 10.19 meters. Sophomore Quinn Stefanski (Munger, MI) finished in 14th place with a distance of 9.63 meters. Freshman Elsa Clausen (Plainfield, IL) finished right behind in 15th place with a throw of 9.21 meters. Freshman Morgan Jenkins (Cleveland, OH) finished out shot put in 19 place with a throw of 7.94 meters.

Hirt took her turn in the discus with a winning throw of 41.79 meters. Clausen was the only other Cardinal to compete in the discus. She finished in 6th place with a distance of 30.04 meters and a new personal record. The podium finishes continued into Javelin, as Korte finished in 3rd place with a distance of 33.29.

The team wrapped up throwing events with two top 5 finishes. Jenkins earned a third-place finish with a distance of 39.84 meters. Korte earned a National Christian College Athletic Association qualifying mark with a throw of 39.17 meters and a new personal record. Stefanski made it three in the top 8, with an 8th-place finish after a throw of 36.38 meters. Clausen finished up the day with a 13th-place finish with a distance of 31.34.

Sophomore Aaliyah McIntosh (Chesterfield, MI) earned a new personal record in the long jump with a distance of 4.01 meters.

In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Emily Belinsky (Beluah, MI) earned a new personal record, an NCCAA qualifying mark, and a third-place hurdle in 100 hurdles. Belinsky also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 meters, with a time of 27.07 and a new personal record.

In the 100-meter dash, senior Hope Renfer (Northville, MI) finished in 6th place with a time of 13.61 seconds. McIntosh also made the finals and finished in 8th place with a time of 14.24 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, freshman Chloe Evans (New Boston, MI) finished in 8th place with a time of 1:05.

Freshman Madisyn Flamini (Fowlerville, MI) made her steeplechase debut. She finished in a time of 16:55 and took the overall win. Flamini also tried to run 400 hurdles once again. She finished in 1:22 seconds and earned a 7th-place finish and a couple of points for the team.

In the 800-meter run, Chloe Gunter (Sophomore; Monroe, MI) led the way for Mary Salem (Junior; Troy, MI), as they both went on to run new collegiate records. Gunter finished in 5th place with a time of 2:41 and a 5th place finish. Salem finished right behind in 2:43 and finished in 7th place.

The team had Amanda Fogo (Freshman; Fowlerville, MI) and Alison Doerr (Freshman; Grand Haven, MI) compete in the 5k. Fogo had another good race and finished in 22:05 for another personal record. Doerr had a big breakthrough as she ran a new personal record of 22:31 . Fogo finished in 6th place with Doerr finishing in 7th place.

The team also capped off the meet with a 4x400 meter relay of Belinsky, Evans, Renfer, and Gunter. The relay team finished in 3 place with a time of 4:31.11.

The team will be back in action on Thursday, May 4 for the WHAC Championships at Sienna Heights. The team will have some throwing events that day, along with 4x800 relays, a couple of throwing events, and distance events. The rest of the team will compete on Friday, May 5 for the final day of the championships.
