Women's Track & Field takes home a 5th place finish at Mike Becraft Invitational

(Ada, OH) - The Women's track and field team earned a 5th place finish over 9 teams at the Mike Bencraft Invite at Ohio Northern University. The team also picked up 5 personal records, 1 school record, and 1 NCCAA qualifier.

The Women had 34 points picked up in throwing events. Sophomores Lena Korte (Clinton, MI) and Julia Hirt (Hartland, WI) each picked up 10 points by winning the shot put and discus. Korte threw a distance of 12.89 meters while Hirt threw 40.59 meters. Korte also won Javelin with a throw of 33.11 meters.

Freshman Morgan Jenkins (Cleveland, OH) finished in fifth place in Hammer throw and earned four points for the team with a throw of 40.46 meters. The throw earned her an NCCAA qualifying mark and a new school record.

Also competing in Hammer was Quinn Stefanski (Sophomore; Munger, MI) who finished in 13th place with a throw of 36.72 meters. Korte finished in 18th place with a throw of 33.26 meters.

Stefanski and Jenkins also competed in the shot put. Where Stefanski finished in 11th place and Jenkins in 19th place. Stefanski threw a distance of 10.11 meters and Jenkins threw 8.19 meters.

The team earned another 5 points from senior Emily Belinsky (Beluah, MI) who finished in fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a finishing time of 27.40 seconds. Belinsky also competed in the 100-meter hurdles and finished in 9th place with a time of 18.29 seconds.  

In the 100-meter dash, Hope Renfer (Senior; Northville, MI)  added in another 4 points with a fifth-place finish in 13.49. Aaliyah McIntosh (Sophomore; Chesterfield, MI) helped with another 2 points by finishing in 7th place and finished in 14.44 seconds.

McIntosh earned a new personal record in the long jump as well. McIntosh jumped a distance of 3.49 meters.

Junior Mary Salem (Troy, MI) earned a point by making her outdoor college debut in the 400. She finished in a time of 1:11.

She then joined four other Cardinals, Chloe Gunter (Sophomore; Monroe, MI), Amanda Fogo (Freshman; Fowlerville, MI), Alison Doerr (Freshman; Grand Haven, MI), and Madisyn Flamini (Freshman, Fowlerville, MI) in the 800 meters. All five competed and Gunter led the way with a new personal record of 2:44. Fogo and Doerr also earned new personal records, with Doerr cutting 7 seconds. Flamini ended up making her outdoor debut in the 800 with a finishing time of 2:59. Salem ran a 3:14 after running the 400 back-to-back.

Flamini ended the meet for the Woman by running the 400 hurdles right after finishing her 800. She finished in time of 1:24.

The team will be back in action on Saturday, April 29 for their home meet, the CUAA Alumni Legacy meet.
