Women's Track & Field set 5 PR's and 2 School Records

(Rochester, MI) - The Women's track team traveled to Oakland University on Saturday, April 8 for the Golden Grizzly Invitational. The team came away with 5 personal records, 4 new collegiate marks, 2 school records, 1 NCCAA qualification, and 1 NAIA qualification.

Sophomore Lena Korte (Clinton, MI) led off the event for the Cardinals once again as she broke her own school records in both the Javelin and Shot Put. Korte threw a distance of 36.57 meters in Javelin to finish in second place. While a throw of 13.21 meters in the shot put, not only won her the event, it punched her ticket to NAIA outdoor nationals. Both of the throws were new personal records and new school records.

Korte also competed in weight throw along with sophomore Quinn Stefanski (Munger, MI) and freshman Morgan Jenkins (Cleveland, OH). The ladies were led by Jenkins with a throw of 35.64 meters. Korte finished second of the trio with a distance of 33.65 meters and Stefanski had a throw of 33.37 meters.

To finish up throwing events, Stefanski also competed in the shot put and had a throw of 9.53 meters. While sophomore Julia Hurt (Hartland, WI) finished in 5th place with a throw of 38.75 meters.

In sprinting events, graduate senior Emily Belinsky (Beluah, MI) made her collegiate debut in the 400 hurdles, while also hitting the NCCAA qualifying mark. Also making her collegiate debut was junior Lily Kueber (Northville, MI) who finished in a total time of 1:17. The third and final Cardinal to compete in the 400 hurdles was freshman distance runner Madisyn Flamini (Fowlerville, MI), who cut 4 seconds off of her time from Spring Arbor and have a new personal time of 1:19.

Belinsky also competed in the 100-meter dash, where she had a new personal record of 13.36 seconds. Senior Hope Renfer (Northville, MI) competed in the 200 and finished in a time of 28.59 seconds.

Freshman Amanda Fogo (Fowlerville, MI) and Alison Doerr (Grand Haven, MI) competed with junior Mary Salem (Troy, MI) in the 800-meter dash to start the running events for the day. Salem was the first to finish with a new personal record time of 2:48. Fogo was close behind finishing with a time of 2:52 and a new collegiate outdoor mark. Doerr finished just behind the two Cardinals with a time of 3:00 and earned a new collegiate time.

Doerr, Flamini, Fogo, and Salem finished up the running events for the day by competing in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The team finished with a total time of 5:02.

The team will enjoy the Easter holiday before gearing up for their trip to Sienna Heights on Friday, April 14 for the Don Kleinow Invitational.
