Shannon McAlinden named WHAC and NCCAA Player of the Week

(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and National Christian College Athletic Assocation announced their weekly player of the week recipients on Monday afternoon and Shannon McAlinden was named the softball offensive player of the week.  McAlinden led the Cardinals to a 3-1 record last week with a batting average of .714.

 

In the Cardinals first series against Lawrence Tech, McAlinden went 3-4 in each game, scored two runs, and also recorded three RBIs.

 

In the second series against Rochester, McAlinden led an offensive explosion for the Cardinals which tallied 24 runs in two games. McAlinden hit perfect in the first game going 3-3. She also scored two runs and recorded four RBIs. McAlinden showed her versatility with a double and a home run. She also recorded a run and an RBI in the second game.

 

In the four games, the freshman standout went 10-14, scored five runs, and recorded eight RBIs. Her batting average was .714 with a slugging percentage of 1.071

 

McAlinden is the first Cardinal to be recognized by the WHAC this season. McAlinden joins teammate Lauren Reichel who has been recognized by the NCCAA several times this season.

 

The Cardinals return to action this Saturday when they host UM Dearborn. The first pitch of the double header is set for 1pm.
