(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia softball entered day 3 of the WHAC Tournament on Friday. The Cardinals looked to break out of the consolation bracket with a matchup against #2 seed Madonna. CUAA took an early 1-0 lead in the game, but Madonna's offense broke through and built a 9-1 lead after 5 innings to claim the win.

Lauren Reichel started the day on the mound, making 3 strikeouts in 4.1 innings. The game remained scoreless until the 3rd inning. Abbie Begley drew a walk, advanced to second on a groundout from Koryn Playford, and scored on an RBI single from Shannon McAlinden. Madonna countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 3-1.
Concordia threatened with 2 runners on base in the 5th inning but were unable to score any runs. Madonna exploded with 6 more runs in the 5th inning, going ahead by 8 runs to trigger the mercy-rule victory 9-1.
The Cardinals may still have an opportunity at postseason play when the NCCAA announces their selections for the national tournament.
