(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia softball traveled to Lourdes for a WHAC doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.  The Cardinals entered the game 19-16 overall (7-3 WHAC) while the Gray Wolves came in 4-23 overall (1-7 WHAC).  CUAA performed well in both games, notching a 4-0 shutout in game 1 and finishing the sweep with a 10-4 victory in game 2.

 

Game 1 – CUAA 4, LU 0

Kendall Kahl started the game on the mound, racking up 4 strikeouts in 2 innings.  Kate Elias hit an RBI single to open scoring in the 1st, driving in Carly PearsonKendall Kahl struck out all 3 batters in the bottom of the 1st inning.

Kate Elias used a sacrifice bunt to score Emma Paryaski in the 3rd inning.  Lauren Reichel came on to pitch for the rest of the game, making 4 total strikeouts in the shutout.

Concordia added another run in the 5th when Abbie Begley led off with a triple and was driven in on an RBI groundout by Carly Pearson.  The Cardinals added a similar insurance run in the 7th when Megan Hinkle led off with a triple and scored on an RBI groundout from Kendall Kahl.

Lauren Reichel finished off all three batters in the bottom of the 7th to clinch the 4-0 victory.

 

Game 2 – CUAA 10, LU 4

Kate Elias began game 2 at pitcher.  Concordia opened the 1st inning with 3 runs, starting with Emma Paryaski hitting an RBI single that scored Abbie BegleyLauren Reichel later scored on a throwing error with the bases loaded and Kate Elias scored while Cassidy Kane was caught stealing.

Lourdes countered with 3 runs in the 1st to tie the game.  Cassidy Kane came in to pitch and secured the final strikeout of the inning.  Kane racked up 3 total strikeouts in 6.2 innings on the mound.

Concordia added a run in the 2nd when Megan Hinkle singled, stole second, and eventually scored on a wild pitch.  The Cardinals tacked on 2 more runs in the 4thKendall Kahl used an RBI groundout to score Lauren Martin and Carly Pearson singled to drive in Megan Hinkle.

Lourdes got a run back in the 5th, but the Cardinals continued to push their lead with 3 runs in the 6thMegan Hinkle led off with a double and later scored on a throwing error.  Karina Gregory was able to steal home base while Abbie Begley was stealing second.  Finally, Emma Paryaski hit an RBI groundout to drive in Begley.

Concordia added one more in the 7th when multi-sport star Hannah Sickmiller hit a single and Kate Elias reached home on a throwing error.  While Lourdes countered with a run in the 7th, Cassidy Kane induced the final groundout to close out the series sweep.

 

Concordia will return home tomorrow when they host Indiana Tech for a WHAC doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 3pm
