Hinojosa Repeats as MSFA Defensive Player of the Week; honored by NCCAA

The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced the weekly awards Monday afternoon and Alex Hinojosa (JR/Allen Park, MI) has been named the defensive player of the week for the second straight week. The junior leader anchored the Cardinals defense and helped lead a 4th quarter comeback for the Cardinals by recording 6 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

The Cardinals defense shut out the Tigers after giving up 14 points in the opening quarter. With Concordia trailing 14-0 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, junior defensive end Hinojosa was able to come up with some big time plays for the Cardinals in order to put them in a position to win. Hinojosa's 4th quarter heroics included a sack to force a turnover on downs and a forced fumble to let the Cardinal offense run out the clock.

This is the second time in Hinojosa's Cardinal career that he has received MSFA Defensive Player of the Week honors as he was awarded it the previous week for his play against Kentucky Wesleyan where he posted 9 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 1 sack.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, September 21st when they return back to Ann Arbor for their first home game of 2019 to face off against University of Saint Francis (IL). Kickoff is set for 1pm.
