Fish named MSFA and NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week

The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their weekly awards Monday afternoon and Ryan Fish (JR/Allen Park, MI) has been named the defensive player of the week. Fish recorded a career high 10 tackles and two interceptions to anchor the Cardinal defense in the 42-35 comeback win over #9 Saint Xavier. Fish's two interceptions came in the second quarter and shifted the momentum for the Cardinals after going down 21-0 in the first quarter.

After facing a quick 21 point deficit, it was Fish's interceptions on back to back drives which gave the Cardinals the opportunity to gain back 14 of those points on their way to 42 unanswered points by Concordia. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that Saint Xavier was able to put any more points on the board as they scored a pair of touchdowns with less than 10 minutes left on the clock to make it a one score game. Saint Xavier had one last drive to attempt to tie the game, but Fish broke up the Cougars' last ditch effort to force a turnover on downs and secure the 42-35 victory.

This is the first time in Fish's Cardinal career that he has received MSFA Defensive Player of the Week honors and the second time he has been named NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week. Fish's fellow defender and former high school teammate, Alex Hinojosa (JR/Allen Park, MI) has been named the MSFA Defensive Player of the Week twice this season as well as NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week once.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, October 5th when they return back to Ann Arbor for Concordia's homecoming game against Siena Heights. Kickoff is set for 1pm.
