Week 5 Game Notes: No. 5 Cardinals prep for MSFA Mideast matchup vs. No. 19 Siena Heights on Homecoming

Concordia football will return home this week to begin MSFA Mideast Division play against rival Siena Heights. The #5 Cardinals moved to 4-0 after erasing a 21-point deficit to win a top-ten matchup against then #9 Saint Xavier, claiming a 42-35 victory. #19 Siena Heights also enters the contest 4-0 after a 63-2 win this week against Trinity International.

This will be the second straight year where both programs enter the match ranked in the top 25. While Siena Heights enters the game with strong defensive rankings, they have not played a team with a winning record. Concordia leads the all-time series 4-3 after winning the last four matchups by a combined score of 127-37.

The Saints feature the #19 rank in the NAIA Coaches Poll and a perfect 4-0 record. Siena Heights enters the match tied for #1 with Marian in lowest points allowed per game (7.0). The Cardinals retained the #5 rank in the NAIA Coaches Poll this week. MSFA Mideast members Saint Francis (Ind) and Marian stayed the same at #3 and #6 respectively. Saint Xavier dropped to #15 after falling to Concordia while Siena Heights moved up a spot to #19 overall.

Player of the Week Honors

Ryan Fish (JR/Allen Park, MI) was named both MSFA Mideast Defensive Player of the Week and NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts this past Saturday. The junior defensive back tied his career high with 10 total tackles in the Cardinals' 42-35 win over then-#9 Saint Xavier. Fish also recorded 2 interceptions in the game, reaching a total of 4 on the year.
