Men's Basketball rally falls short in tight game against LTU

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia men's basketball played against Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon in WHAC play.  The Cardinals nearly erased an 18-point deficit, pulling within three points late in the second half. However, the Blue Devils held on for a 77-69.  

 

Colby Chapman led the team with 14 points.  Jack Olis had 13 points and a team-high of seven rebounds.  Mark DeVries finished with 12 points.   

 

Mark DeVries had the first two Cardinal baskets.  Matt Blanton made a layup and a 3-pointer as the teams battled early on.  Jack Olis had a layup and Colby Chapman knocked down a triple.  CUAA trailed 25-14 at the midway point of the first half. 

 

Mark DeVries scored inside and Mason Canfield had a basket on a fast break.  Ray Washington-Battle made a quick drive to the basket and Luke Brohl hit a 3-pointer.  Ray Washington-Battle added two more baskets before halftime and CUAA faced a 43-27 deficit at the break. 

 

Colby Chapman made a 3-pointer to start an 8-2 run early in the second half.  Jason Jergens capped the run with a triple and added another 3-pointer.  Mark DeVries continued to score inside and Wyatt Zepp had two triples as the Cardinals continued to cut into the deficit. Jack Olis made a pair of baskets and CUAA trailed 62-54 at the 9:14 mark.  

 

Colby Chapman and Jack Olis added two baskets each as the Cardinals continued to rally.  Mark DeVries made a layup and Colby Chapman drained free throws. Jack Olis hit a 3-pointer to pull the Cardinals within three points at the 1:13 mark.   

 

The Cardinals nearly made a defensive stop as they looked to regain possession.  However, Lawrence Tech was able to maintain their lead for a 77-69 win. 

 

CUAA will travel to Aquinas this Wednesday, February 5th, for a 7:30pm game.
