Men's Basketball second half rally comes up short at Cleary
 
 (Lansing, MI) - Concordia Men's Basketball went on the road to face Cleary on Saturday night in WHAC play.  The Cardinals nearly came back from a 19-point halftime deficit with a comeback effort late in the game, but the Cougars held on for a 77-73 win.  

 

Jack Olis had a double-double to lead the team with 23 points and 10 rebounds.  Ray Washington-Battle finished second with 18 points.  Jason Jergens finished third with 12 points.  

 

 

Ray Washington-Battle drove for a layup to score the first Cardinal basket.  Jason Jergens hit a 3-pointer as the lead changed hands early on.  Jack Olis knocked down a jumper, but Cleary responded with an 11-0 run to pull ahead.  Wyatt Zepp countered with back-to-back triples and Ray Washington-Battle drove for two layups.  CUAA trailed 22-17 just after the midway point of the first half. 

 

Wyatt Zepp nailed another triple, but Cleary continued to extend their lead.  Jack Olis and Ray Washington-Battle continued to pace the Cardinal offense.  CUAA faced a 48-29 deficit at halftime. 

 

Mason Canfield knocked down a 3-pointer early in the second half.  Mark DeVries got on the scoresheet with an inside basket.  Jack Olis and Ray Washington-Battle continued to attack the basket and Jason Jergens chipped in a triple.  Cleary held a 62-47 lead at the midway point of the second half.   

 

The Cardinals began to rally with two straight 3-pointers from Jason JergensMason Canfield made two free throws and a Jack Olis layup capped a 14-3 run and pulled CUAA within four points.  After Cleary answered with a 6-0 run, Mason Canfield made a block which led to him scoring a layup.  Jack Olis pumped up the Cardinal bench with a dunk to keep the team fighting.   

 

Ray Washington-Battle converted an "and-1" and Jack Olis hit a triple to trim Cleary's lead to 75-71 with 19 seconds left.  However, CUAA would fall by a final score of 77-73. 

 

 

Concordia will return home on Saturday, December 14th, to host University of Northwestern Ohio at 3pm in the Cardinal Fieldhouse.
