(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA men's basketball hosted Lourdes on Saturday afternoon to conclude the WHAC season. Prior to the game, the Cardinals honored their four Senior team members: Hunter Yeakey, Jason Jergens, Mason Canfield, and Ray Washinton-Battle. The team fought hard in their final game but fell 70-60.
Ray Washington-Battle led the team with 15 points. Colby Chapman and Jason Jergens tied for second with 11 points apiece. Mark DeVries had a team-high eight rebounds.
Hunter Yeakey had the first Cardinal basket with a layup. Mason Canfield knocked down a 3-pointer and Ray Washington-Battle made a short jumper. Wyatt Zepp, Matt Blanton, and Colby Chapman all scored as well. CUAA trailed 16-13 at the midway point of the first half.
Ray Washington-Battle ended an 8-0 Lourdes run with a free throw. Mason Canfield had a triple and both Ray Washington-Battle and Canfield made jumpers. Washington-Battle drove for a layup and Colby Chapman knocked down a triple. Jason Jergens made a 3-pointer and Ray Washington-Battle scored a layup. CUAA trailed 41-31 at halftime.
Jason Jergens opened the second half with a triple. Hunter Yeakey made two free throws and Ray Washington-Battle continued his solid day with a layup. Jack Olis drove for a layup and Ray Washington-Battle added two more baskets. CUAA faced a 55-44 deficit midway through the second half.
Mark DeVries made an offensive putback to get on the score sheet. Jason Jergens drove for a basket and Colby Chapman scored the next six points. Jason Jergens hit a triple and Gabe Sweat made a layup in the final minute. However, CUAA fell 70-60 as time expired.
