(Grand Rapids, MI) - Concordia men's basketball went on the road to Cornerstone on Wednesday night in WHAC play. The Cardinals trimmed a 20-point deficit to single digits in the second half, but the Golden Eagles held on for a 96-71 win.
Jason Jergens led the team with 14 points. Jack Olis finished second with 13 points along with a team-high of eight rebounds. Mason Canfield came in third with 12 points.
Colby Chapman ended a 7-0 Cornerstone run with a 3-pointer. Mark DeVries knocked down a triple and Ray Washington-Battle drained free throws for an 8-7 Cardinal lead. Cornerstone regained their lead but Colby Chapman made free throws and both Jack Olis and Luke Brohl knocked down jumpers. CUAA trailed 23-14 at the midway point of the first half.
Jason Jergens drained two free throws along with a jumper to spark the offense. Jack Olis and Mason Canfield each knocked down multiple triples in the final minutes as the Cardinals kept fighting. CUAA faced a 53-42 deficit at halftime.
Jason Jergens made a 3-pointer to start the second half and cut the deficit to single digits. Cornerstone countered with an 11-0 run but Jason Jergens responded with a jumper and a triple. Matt Blanton chipped in two layups and the Cardinals trailed 76-57 at the midway point of the second half.
Mason Canfield made a 3-pointer to keep the offense going. Hunter Yeakey scored a layup and a triple as the Cardinals utilized some bench players in the game. Luke Brohl made a 3-pointer in the final seconds but CUAA fell 96-71.
Concordia will return home this Saturday, January 18th, to host rival Madonna University at 3pm.
