(Oakland City, IN) - Concordia men's basketball played IU Kokomo on day two of the Oakland City Tourney. The Cardinals played a close game but fell 73-63.
Jack Olis led the team with 13 points. Ray Washington-Battle had ten points and a team-high of eight rebounds.
Colby Chapman made a layup to end a 6-0 IU Kokomo run. Ray Washington-Battle had a pair of baskets and Wyatt Zepp converted a layup. Mason Canfield knocked down a triple and CUAA trailed 15-11 at the midway point of the first half.
Wyatt Zepp and Ray Washington-Battle each scored baskets to keep the offense moving. Luke Brohl had a tip-in and a 3-pointer and Mark DeVries scored inside to tie the game 22-22. Colby Chapman and Jack Olis added 3-pointers as both teams traded baskets. Jack Olis gave the Cardinals a 33-32 lead with a triple and Jason Jergens added a layup. Olis drained another 3-pointer but CUAA faced a narrow 40-38 deficit at halftime.
Colby Chapman scored the first Cardinal basket in the second half. Wyatt Zepp tied the game 43-43 with a triple. Jack Olis added a basket but the Cougars began to pull away and built a double-digit lead. Jason Jergens and Mark DeVries knocked down 3-pointers to trim the deficit to 60-54 at the 9:53 mark.
Mason Canfield had a pair of free throws and a triple as the Cardinals looked to stay in the game. Ray Washington-Battle drove for a layup in the final minutes. However, IU Kokomo was able to hold on for a 73-63 win.
Concordia will return home this Saturday, January 4th, to host Defiance at 3pm.
