Men's Bowling bows out of WHAC Semifinal in match against St. Francis (IL)

(Jackson, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Men's Bowling team competed in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship on Saturday morning. The event featured the teams bowling 15 baker games during the qualifying round. From that point the top six teams would advance to bracket play. 

 

The Cardinals in the qualifying round bowled baker sets of 984-1018-1087 throughout the 15 games for a total score of 3089. The Cardinals would advance to the bracket play with the third highest mark. The other teams to advance were Lawrence Tech (3,289 pins), St. Francis (IL) (3,284), Aquinas (3,061), Cleary (3,057) and Indiana Tech (3,021).

 

The first round saw a CUAA matchup against Indiana Tech in which the Cardinals pulled out a 3-0 win in the best-of-5 series. Concordia outscored the Warriors 200-199, 235-185, and 205-201.

 

The Cardinals semifinal matchup was against St. Francis (IL) in which they would grab the first set of games 226-223, before dropping the next three to lose 3-1.

 

The championship match was between Lawrence Tech and St. Francis (IL). St. Francis (IL) took the first two games before Lawrence Tech battled back and won the next three. The Cougars though were able to finish the match as they won the final two games. 

 

JV RESULTS

The Cardinals JV team competed at the WHAC Championships as well and finished the qualifying round in fourth place as they were also able to make bracket play. CUAA scoring by round were 907-1034-920 for a total pin fall of 2861 pins. 

 

The first round matchup saw the Cards go up against St. Francis (IL) and took them down 3-1 with scores of 206-190, 242-214, 156-187, and 201-171. The championship match was against the Saints from Aquinas. The Saints won the first three games before CUAA tied the match up with three wins of their own. The JV Championship came down to a game 7 where the Saints pulled out a 196-179 win.
