Lewis and Duchene earn NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week honors

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their weekly student-athlete of the week recipients on Monday afternoon and Payton Lewis and Hannah Duchene were named as the offensive and pitcher student-athletes of the week.

 

Lewis, a freshman, saw her best four-game series of her young Cardinal career as she went 11 for 17 for a 0.647 batting average. In addition, she crossed the plate 11 times throughout the weekend, while also hitting in seven runs. Lewis was hitting all over the field with three doubles and two triples throughout the games. She tacked on two stolen bases and two walks. 

 

Duchene, a sophomore transfer, pitched eleven innings over two games, as she pitched the first and last games. In her complete game on Sunday, Duchene allowed one earned run on three hits. Throughout the weekend, she was able to pull together a 1.91 earned run average and totaled four strikeouts. 

 

The softball team will head back onto the road to face off in a four-game series against the Brescia Bearcats this weekend with doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday.
