Softball falls at Siena Heights

(Adrian, MI) – Concordia softball played a rivalry doubleheader against Siena Heights on Sunday afternoon in WHAC play.  The Cardinals battled hard in both contests, but the Saints came away with a pair of wins on the day.

 

Game 1 – SHU 9, CUAA 5

Paige Anderson started game 1 on the mound, notching 3 strikeouts in 5 innings.  Concordia scored 2 runs in the 1st, starting with Abbie Begley hitting an RBI double to drive in Shannon McAlinden.  Begley later scored on an error for a 2-0 lead.

The Saints countered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st, but the Cardinals retook the lead with a 3-run 2nd inning.  Abbie Begley started with a bases-loaded RBI groundout to score Bella LeePayton Lewis then hit a 2-RBI single that drove in Shannon McAlinden and Lauren Martin.

Siena Heights tied the game with a run in the bottom of the 2nd.  The game turned into a defensive battle for the next several innings, but the Saints went ahead with a run in the 5th and 3 runs in the 6th.  Concordia was unable to mount a comeback and fell 9-5 in game 1.

 

Game 2 – SHU 6, CUAA 2

Hannah Duchene pitched a complete game in the second match, recording 5 strikeouts.  Siena Heights got on the board first with a run in the 1st and another 2 runs in the 3rd inning.

Both teams traded runs in the 5th and 6th innings.  Concordia got their first run in the 5th inning when Morgan Scott hit an RBI double scoring Jada Stephenson.  In the 6th inning, Dee Campbell singled to drive in Maddy Greuter.

Siena Heights was able to maintain their lead for a 6-2 win after the 7th.

 

Concordia will head on the road this Wednesday, April 13 for a doubleheader at Cornerstone starting at 3:30pm.
