Softball drops doubleheader to Indiana Tech

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia softball traveled to Indiana Tech for a WHAC doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.  In game 1, the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead but narrowly fell 8-7.  The Warriors took game 2 as well by a score of 9-1.

 

Game 1 – IT 8, CUAA 7

Paige Anderson started game 1 on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings.  Payton Lewis started things off in the 1st inning with a solo home run on the very first pitch of the game.  Abbie Begley later added an RBI triple to drive in Maddy Grueter for a 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals added 3 runs more in the 2nd, starting with an RBI single from Payton Lewis to score Karley KentShannon McAlinden hit an RBI groundout that drove in Bella Lee and Maddy Grueter hit an RBI double to score Lewis.

Indiana Tech began to rally with 4 runs in the 3rd.   Cassidy Kane entered at pitcher in the 3rd, making a strikeout in 2 innings of work.

The Warriors continued their comeback with a 4-run 5th inning.  Kendall Kahl came on to pitch for the rest of the game, securing the last 2 outs of the inning.

The Cardinals attempted a rally in the 7th when Kennedy Cornette hit an RBI groundout which allowed Shannon McAlinden to slide home.  Abbie Begley added an RBI single to drive in Maddy Grueter, pulling the team within one run.  However, Indiana Tech got the final out the close out the game.

 

Game 2 – IT 9, CUAA 1 (6 innings)

Hannah Duchene started game 2 on the mound.  Indiana Tech jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after the first 2 innings.  Megan Martin came on to pitch starting in the 2nd, going 4.1 innings.

Concordia got on the board in the 5th inning when Abbie Begley hit an RBI single to drive in Karley Kent.  The Warriors countered with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Indiana Tech was able to add 3 more runs in the 6th to trigger the 8-run rule and finish the game.

 

Concordia will return home this Wednesday, April 6 to host rival Madonna for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 pm.
