Softball drops final two games against Trojans and Fighting Bees

(Kissimmee, FL) - The Concordia Cardinals close out their spring break trip with a doubleheader against the Missouri Baptist Spartans and the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees. The Cardinals entered the game with a record of 15-9, while the Spartans entered at 7-9 and the Fighting Bees came in at 8-3

Game 1: Missouri Baptist 4, Concordia 1

Paige Anderson hit the bump for the second to last game of the week. She would go on to pitch in 4.2 innings, give up eight hits and four runs. She would strike one batter out.

After a quick top of the first Missouri Baptist was able to grab ahold of the lead with two runs as they were able to pick runs up off of a single and then a double steal of second and home. Coming right back in the top of the second though the Cardinals would be able to cut the lead in half as Sarah Tyrell was able to beat a throw to first in time for Abbie Begley to score.

The other two Trojan runs came in the bottom of the fifth as they tallied runs off of a home run to left field.

Megan Martin pitched the final 1.1 innings as she only surrendered a walk and struck one batter out.

Game 2: St. Ambrose 6, Concordia 1

Getting the final start on the weekend was Hannah Duchene. Duchene would go on to pitch 4.1 innings, surrendering nine hits and six runs. She would also strike out two batters.

The Fighting Bees struck first right away as they were able to cross the plate twice in the top of the first. They would score after a single to center and then a sacrifice fly out to right field. The next four innings would play quickly as teams would trade good pitching. The fifth would be the next time a team would tally runs as St. Ambrose would tally four and the Cardinals once. A two-run homer would begin the inning for the Fighting Bees as they would also score on a sacrifice bunt followed by a single.

The Cardinal's sole run of the game came as Sarah Tyrell began the inning with a bunt single. She would advance to second on a Lauren Martin groundout. She would come around to score after Payton Lewis shot the gap for an RBI double.

Kendall Kahl came in for relief of Duchene and pitched the final 2.2 innings.

The Cardinals will travel back to Michigan and will get back onto the field next Saturday as they will open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against the University of Northwestern Ohio in a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
