Softball drops two games at UM-Dearborn

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals took the field for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon as they went up against the Wolverines from UM-Dearborn as they headed to Alumni Field in Ann Arbor for this matchup. The Cardinals entered at 19-17 overall and 4-6 in the WHAC, while the Wolverines entered at 19-7 and 10-2. 

 

Game 1: UM-Dearborn 7, Concordia 2

 

Hitting the bump for the Cardinals in the first game of the series was Cassidy Kane. She would go on to pitch 0.1 innings and allow three runs on three hits.

 

The Wolverines struck first in this game as they were able to tally three runs as they pieced together a single, double, and a sacrifice fly to take the only lead in the game. In the second inning, the Cardinals would pull within one run in the game. Maddy Grueter, Bella Lee, and Karley Kent all were able to get on base before Shannon McAlinden hit a single to score Grueter, Koryn Playford would then hit a sacrifice fly and bring in Bella Lee to make it 3-2. 

 

In the third inning, UM-Dearborn would add to their lead with a home run. In the fifth inning, three more runs crossed the plate for the Wolverines for 7-2. 

 

Two other pitchers entered the game for the Cardinals Paige Anderson and Kate Elias. Anderson pitched 4.1 innings and allow four runs on three hits and also struck out five batters. Elias pitched 1.1 innings with one hit and one strikeout.

 

Game 2: UM-Dearborn 9, Concordia 0, 5 Innings

 

Getting the nod for the final game of the series was Kate Elias. Elias would give up three runs on two hits. 

 

The Wolverines were able to take the lead right away in the first inning, as six runners crossed the plate. A three-run home run is what gave Dearborn the first scoring in the game. Following the home run, they were able to use a couple of singles and a passed ball to score their other runs. 

 

The next inning saw the final three runs cross the plate as they were able to use three consecutive singles to score. 

 

The Cardinals will play this upcoming Wednesday as they will go up against the Madonna Crusaders in a rescheduled game from earlier this month. The first game will begin at 3 pm.
