(Dearborn, MI) – Concordia women's basketball faced UM-Dearborn on the road Saturday afternoon in WHAC play. The Cardinals controlled the game throughout and cruised to an 82-62 win.
Taylor Leatherman led the team with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Samantha Dorn was a close second with 20 points. Izzy Viau and Zaria Mitchner tied for third with 8 points apiece.
Taylor Leatherman drove for three layups during a 7-0 run to start the game. Samantha Dorn and Monae Palmer added a runner in the lane in a fast start for Concordia. Ellie Kallner added a layup as UM-Dearborn pulled closer late in the quarter. Zaria Mitchner and Samantha Dorn drained three throws and Asaria Turman scored inside, putting CUAA up 23-17 after the 1st.
Samantha Dorn hit a 3-pointer to start the 2nd quarter, but UM-Dearborn pulled within 26-23 at the 8:30 mark. Izzy Hadley made a free throw to start a 17-0 CUAA run in response. Taylor Leatherman and Samantha Dorn remained strong scorers, Izzy Viau drove for a layup and Ellie Kallner made a triple. Zaria Mitchner and Asaria Turman added baskets for a 43-25 lead at halftime.
Taylor Leatherman scored to open the 3rd quarter. Izzy Viau converted an "and-1" and Leatherman added free throws and a layup. Samantha Dorn made two free throws and Izzy Hadley used her speed for a late layup, putting CUAA ahead 61-46 after the 3rd.
Zaria Mitchner scored to open the 4th quarter. Monae Palmer drove for a layup and Asaria Turman scored inside. Samantha Dorn and Taylor Leatherman continued their standout days by pacing the offense down the stretch. The Cardinals secured the 82-62 win as time expired.
Concordia will remain on the road at Cornerstone this Tuesday at 5:30pm.
