Women's Basketball falls in defensive contest at Lawrence Tech
 
 

(Southfield, MI) – Concordia women's basketball traveled to Lawrence Tech on Monday evening.  The contest featured tight defense on both sides for most of the game, but the Blue Devils held on for a 52-44 win. 

Zaria Mitchner led the Cardinals with 10 points.  Taylor Leatherman had a team-high 13 rebounds along with 9 points. 

 

Taylor Leatherman opened scoring with a free throw.  Izzy Viau and Leatherman had early layups along with a drive by Zaria Mitchner.  Defense took over later in the quarter and CUAA trailed 15-8 after the 1st. 

Zaria Mitchner drained two free throws to start the 2ndEllie Kallner knocked down a jumper from the wing and added a layup to cut the deficit to 17-14.  After free throws from Taylor Leatherman, the team trailed 22-16 at halftime. 

 

Samantha Dorn hit a deep triple to start the 3rdTaylor Leatherman made two free throws and Zaria Mitchner spun in the lane and scored.  Izzy Viau made a layup and an offensive putback from Asaria Turman gave the Cardinals a 27-26 lead.  Zaria Mitchner had a basket later in the quarter, but LTU mounted a comeback and led 35-29 after the 3rd. 

McKenzie Maciejewski dropped in a 3-pointer to start the 4thIzzy Viau made it a 1-point game with two free throws and Zaria Mitchner also added free throws later on.  LTU countered with a 7-0 run, but free throws from Taylor Leatherman and a triple from Ellie Kallner trimmed the lead to 46-41.   

The Blue Devils were able to make their free throws in the final minutes to secure their lead.  Despite another late 3-pointer from McKenzie Maciejewski, CUAA fell 52-44. 

 

Concordia will return home to host Cornerstone this Saturday at 1pm.
