(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia women's basketball traveled to Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon for a key WHAC tilt. The Cardinals fought themselves up against a difficult opponent and fell 60-34.
Julia Hirt had a team-high 9 points. Zaria Mitchner was second with 8 points. Taylor Leatherman led the team with 10 rebounds.
Zaria Mitchner made a free throw for Concordia's first point in a defensive 1st quarter. Julia Hirt added a free throw and the Cardinals continued to play tough defense while looking for their first field goal. CUAA trailed 10-2 after the 1st.
Emily McCalla hit a 3-pointer for a spark to start the 2nd quarter. Zaria Mitchner chipped in a free throw to cut the deficit to 4 points, but Indiana Tech answered with a 9-0 run. Izzy Viau scored on a scoop shot and Izzy Hadley drained a triple. Zaria Mitchner made a late drive and CUAA trailed 27-13 at halftime.
Izzy Viau made a layup to start the 3rd. Izzy Hadley spun and knocked down a jumper and Zaria Mitchner drove for a basket later in the quarter. Julia Hirt and Mitchner added inside buckets and CUAA trailed 41-23 after the 3rd.
Taylor Leatherman hit a step-back jumper to start the 4th. Samantha Dorn and Julia Hirt knocked down 3-pointers and Hirt added a basket inside. Indiana Tech continued to keep their lead and CUAA fell 60-34 as time expired.
Concordia will head on the road to rival Siena Heights next Wednesday, January 11 at 6:00pm.
