Women's Basketball Downs Lawrence Tech, 77-61

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball returned home after Thanksgiving break to host Lawrence Tech in WHAC play.  The Cardinals performed well on all sides of the ball and cruised to a 77-61 win.

Taylor Leatherman led the team with 21 points.  Samantha Dorn finished second with 15 points.  Julia Hirt finished third with 12 points and tied Ellie Kallner for the team lead with 5 rebounds.

 

Julia Hirt spun away from her defender to score the first Cardinal basket.  Izzy Hadley made a runner in the lane and Samantha Dorn hit a go-ahead triple.  Zaria Mitchner drove for a pair of layups and Hadley scored again as well.  Dorn knocked down another 3-pointer and two baskets from Taylor Leatherman put CUAA up 20-11 after the 1st.

Emily McCalla hit a deep triple early in the 2ndEllie Kallner made a 3-pointer as well, but Lawrence Tech trimmed the lead to 27-22 with 5:07 to play.  Taylor Leatherman drove for a basket and Samantha Dorn hit her third triple to extend the lead.  Ellie Kallner scored a layup and Julia Hirt closed the half with two baskets, putting CUAA up 39-29 at halftime.

 

Julia Hirt started the 3rd with a 3-pointer.  Monae Palmer made two free throws and Zaria Mitchner spun for a basket.  Mitchner scored again and Taylor Leatherman hit two triples and a layup to continue the onslaught.  Julia Hirt closed the quarter with two free throws for a 59-43 lead.

Samantha Dorn drove to the basket to start the 4th.  Dorn added another 3-pointer and both Taylor Leatherman and Ellie Kallner scored layups.  Monae Palmer converted an "and-1" and Leatherman converted free throws down the stretch.  Izzy Viau had a late layup and the Cardinals claimed the 77-61 win.

 

Concordia will remain at home this Saturday to host rival Madonna at 1pm.
