Women's Basketball tops Madonna 62-55 on the road
 
 

(Livonia, MI) – Concordia women's basketball went on the road at Madonna on Wednesday night.  The Cardinals jumped out to a big lead and survived a late Crusader rally to win 62-55. 

Samantha Dorn led the team with 17 points.  Taylor Leatherman was second with 10 points.  McKenzie Maciejewski had 9 points going 3-6 from behind the arc.  Keirslynn Lawless had a team-high 8 rebounds. 

 

Taylor Leatherman had a free throw for the first Cardinal point.  Leatherman and Keirslynn Lawless scored layups and McKenzie Maciejewski nailed a pair of 3-pointers.  Emily McCalla made an offensive putback and Samantha Dorn drained a triple for a 16-7 lead after the 1st. 

Samantha Dorn drove for a basket to start the 2ndZaria Mitchner made two free throws and Keirslynn Lawless scored inside.  Samantha Dorn stayed sharp with a layup and a mid-range jumper.  A free throw from Asaria Turman gave CUAA a 27-14 lead heading to halftime. 

 

Ellie Kallner hit a 3-pointer to start the 3rdZaria Mitchner added two free throws and Samantha Dorn knocked down another triple.  Keirslynn Lawless made a layup and Jess Andrew got on the scoresheet with a jumpshot.  Taylor Leatherman scored in transition and Ellie Kallner banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 44-31 advantage. 

Keirslynn Lawless scored a layup to start the 4thSamantha Dorn had two free throws and Izzy Hadley made a layup.  Taylor Leatherman made free throws and McKenzie Maciejewski drained her third triple.  Madonna began to rally in the final minutes, trimming the lead to 60-55 with 22 seconds left.  Free throws from Emily McCalla and Samantha Dorn along with solid defense secured the win. 

 

Concordia will return home this Saturday to host rival Siena Heights at 1pm.
