Women's Basketball battles Indiana Tech, but falls 58-48

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball played host to #12 Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon for a key WHAC game.  The Cardinals kept the game close until the end, but the Warriors held on for a 58-48 win.

Taylor Leatherman led the team with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Samantha Dorn was second with 11 points.  Emily McCalla was third with 8 points.

 

Emily McCalla had the first Cardinal basket with a 3-pointer.  Izzy Viau and Taylor Leatherman drove for layups as the game remained close early.  Indiana Tech went on an 8-0 run late in the quarter until Samantha Dorn ended it with a triple.  CUAA trailed 19-10 after the 1st.

Taylor Leatherman hit a 3-pointer early in the 2ndEmily McCalla converted from behind the arc and the game went scoreless for the next 4 minutes.  Taylor Leatherman drained two free throws and Keirslynn Lawless spun in the paint for a basket.  After free throws from Leatherman, CUAA trailed just 28-22 at halftime.

 

Ellie Kallner hit a triple to cut the deficit to 30-25.  Samantha Dorn converted an "and-1" and nailed a 3-pointer as the Cardinals kept in striking distance.  CUAA trailed 40-31 after the 3rd.

Izzy Viau hit a 3-pointer to start the 4thSamantha Dorn and Taylor Leatherman continued to combine on offense to keep the game within reach.  Zaria Mitchner had two free throws to trim the deficit to 49-44 with 2:20 left to play.  However, the Warriors were able to make their free throws and secure the 58-48 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will travel to Lawrence Tech this Monday at 5:30 pm.
