Volleyball falls in WHAC contest to Madonna

(Livonia, MI) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Madonna on Friday night to continue WHAC play.  The Cardinals came in 4-5 overall (4-3 WHAC) while the Crusaders entered 4-3 overall (2-3 WHAC).  CUAA fought hard in the game, but Madonna claimed the win in straight sets.

Kayla Peters led Concordia with 15 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 17 assists.  Tara Schatzle anchored the back end with 14 digs.

 

Set 1 – MU 25, CUAA 22

Tara Drinane had Concordia's first kill in set 1.  Kayla Peters made 3 early kills to pace the Cardinals to a 6-5 lead.  Madonna eventually came back to take the lead, but another kill from Peters led to a 17-17 tie.  CUAA survived 2 set points late in the game, but Madonna took set one 25-22.

 

Set 2 – MU 25, CUAA 11

Kaitlin Veihl had the first Concordia kill in set 2.  The Cardinals kept the match close early with Kayla Peters and Tara Drinane making kills, but Madonna pulled ahead to take a double-digit lead.  Tara Schatzle notched a kill late in the set but the Crusaders took set two 25-11.

 

Set 3 – MU 25, CUAA 20

Kayla Peters continued her solid night with Concordia's first kill in set 3.  Peters combined with Madalyn Lisman for an early block and a big hit from Kaitlin Veihl led to a 7-6 advantage.  Veihl and Tara Schatzle recorded service aces in the set, but Madonna began to pull away towards the end.  Despite late kills from Hailey McCourt and Kayla Peters the Crusaders took set 3 and the match.

 

Concordia will play their next game at Lourdes on Saturday, March 6 at 1:00pm.
