(Lima, OH) – Concordia volleyball traveled to UNOH on Saturday afternoon for their 4th game this week. The Cardinals came into the game 5-9 while the Racers entered the contest 2-14. The game went right down to the wire requiring a fifth set to determine the winner, but CUAA got back in the win column with a 3-2 victory.
Kayla Peters led Concordia with 17 kills. Abigail Austin led the team with 30 assists and 20 digs. Kaitlin Veihl had a team-high 5 blocks while adding 10 kills.
Set 1 – UNOH 26, CUAA 24
Kayla Peters recorded the first kill of the game. Kaitlin Veihl made three kills early in the game as the Cardinals held on to a narrow lead. Concordia led 22-16 late in the set after a kill from Madalyn Lisman, but the Racers slowly mounted a comeback with a 10-2 run to take set one.
Set 2 – CUAA 25, UNOH 16
Kayla Peters tied the game 2-2 with a kill. Peters and Kaitlin Veihl notched early service aces to keep the Cardinals ahead. Hailey McCourt had three late kills down the stretch and Veihl notched the game-winner in set two for a 25-16 win.
Set 3 – UNOH 25, CUAA 22
Kaitlin Veihl had the first kill in set 3. Abigail Austin made an early kill and McKenzie Peters notched a service ace. Abigail Austin and Kayla Peters added aces as well, but the Racers eventually jumped out to the lead. While CUAA held a 22-21 lead after a Hailey McCourt kill, UNOH came back to win 25-22.
Set 4 – CUAA 25, UNOH 15
Tara Drinane made the first kill in set 4. Kayla Peters and Kaitlin Veihl combined for two early blocks in the set. Hailey McCourt recorded a service ace and the Cardinals built a comfortable lead. Tara Drinane clinched the set with a kill for the 25-15 win.
Set 5 – CUAA 15, UNOH 13
A Tara Drinane kill started a 5-0 opening run in the deciding fifth set. Kayla Peters made an ace and Hailey McCourt had two kills, but the Racers tightened the set taking a 12-10 lead. Kayla Peters caught fire again with 4 kills in the team's last 5 points, giving CUAA a 15-13 win and the victory.
Concordia will return home on Friday, March 19 to host Lourdes at 7pm.
