Warriors sweep Cardinals in WHAC contest

 

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Indiana Tech on Wednesday night for a WHAC conference game.  The Cardinals entered with a 6-9 record (6-6 WHAC) while the Warriors featured a 12-6 overall mark (9-4 WHAC).  CUAA played Indiana Tech close in the first and third sets, but the Warriors earned the win in straight sets.

Tara Drinane led the team with 8 kills.  Abigail Austin had a team-high 14 assists.  Kayla Peters was first with 14 digs along with 7 kills.

 

Set 1 – IT 25, CUAA 22

Kayla Peters had the first kill to put Concordia up 3-1.  Indiana Tech took the lead early, but kills from Hailey McCourt and Madalyn Lisman kept the game close.  The Cardinals consistently stayed within a few points with Tara Drinane making back-to-back kills and a service ace from Kaitlin Veihl, but Indiana Tech took set one 25-22.

 

Set 2 – IT 25, CUAA 7

After a 6-0 Indiana Tech run, Warrior attack errors helped the Cardinals cut the deficit in half.  Kaitlin Veihl had two kills in the set, but Indiana Tech took control and secured a 25-7 win in set two.

 

Set 3 – IT 25, CUAA 19

Tara Drinane had the first kill in set 3.  Kayla Peters had two early kills and Abigail Austin notched an ace as the Cardinals looked to stay in the game.  Tara Drinane started a 5-0 run with Austin adding a solid cross-court kill.  While the teams traded points late in the set, Indiana Tech secured the 25-19 win to claim the game.

 

Concordia will return home on Friday, March 19 to host Lourdes at 7pm.
