Robert Morris defeats Cardinals 2-1

(Arlington Heights, IL) – Concordia men's soccer traveled to Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon for another early season non-conference game. The Cardinals looked to claim their first win of the year while the Eagles came into the contest 1-0. While Robert Morris struck first, CUAA was able to tie game just minutes into the 2nd half. However, the Eagles pulled away with a second goal to hand the Cardinals a 2-1 loss.

Spencer Ward (SR/Rochester, MI) and Marino Morracini split time at goalkeeper, recording 2 and 3 saves respectively. Anthony Tucker (SR/Canton, MI) scored Concordia's lone goal in the contest.

Robert Morris scored just 1:37 into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. Noah Jankulovski (JR/Woodhaven, MI) had a solid look at the net at the 33:52 mark, but his shot sailed just high. Goalkeeper Spencer Ward made a key save on a scramble in front of the net to keep the Cardinals just one goal down. Boris Illic (JR/Clinton Township, MI) had CUAA's best chance in the first half with the goalkeeper out of the net, but the Robert Morris goalie made the save. CUAA trailed 1-0 at halftime.

The Cardinals tied the game in the 49th minute when Anthony Tucker scored on a deflection. However, Robert Morris scored a goal 4 minutes later to reclaim the lead. Marino Morracini came in at goalkeeper with 37 minutes remaining in the game. Concordia continued to keep up offensive pressure throughout the 2nd half, generating opportunities on corner kicks and free kicks. However, Robert Morris held on for a 2-1 win.

The Cardinals will play their next match on the road when they travel to Shawnee State on Thursday, August 29. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
