#17 UNOH outlasts Cardinals 1-0 in defensive battle

(Lima, OH) – Concordia men's soccer traveled to #17 University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals came in 3-7 overall while the Racers entered 4-1-5 on the year. CUAA played tough and stayed with the Racers for most of the game, but a successful penalty shot in the 76th minute gave UNOH the 1-0 win.

Spencer Ward (SR/Rochester, MI) started in goal for Concordia, making 6 saves in the contest. Both teams exchanged early corner kicks with Boris Illic (JR/Clinton Township, MI) taking one for the Cardinals. Christian Margilaj (SO/Clinton Twp, MI) took CUAA's lone shot of the 1st half, firing a shot just wide of the net. The game remained tied 0-0 at halftime.

The Cardinals had an early scoring chance in the 2nd half when Anthony Tucker (SR/Canton, MI) ran down the right flank, but Tucker's shot landed on the outside of the net. Concordia received several corner kicks early in the half, but the team was not able to find the back of the net.

The Racers broke the shutout in the 76th minute with a goal on a penalty kick. Boris Illic nearly scored the equalizer for the Cardinals just 3 minutes later, however a UNOH defender was able to make the save. Concordia kept fighting late in the game as Anthony Tucker made a push into Racer territory and eluded a defender, but UNOH held on to secure a 1-0 win.

Concordia will return home on Saturday, October 12 when they host UM-Dearborn. The game will start at 3pm as part of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team.
