Men's soccer clinches WHAC playoff spot with shutout win over Rochester

(Rochester, MI) – Concordia men's soccer traveled to Rochester on Saturday morning in a critical WHAC conference match. The Cardinals came in 6-11 overall and 4-6 in WHAC play while Rochester entered 3-11-1 and 2-8 in conference. CUAA kept a clean sheet and came away with a 2-0 victory to secure the #6 seed in the WHAC conference tournament.

Spencer Ward (SR/Rochester, MI) started in goal for Concordia, making 4 saves in the shutout. Both teams traded early shots that went wide of the net. Anthony Tucker (SR/Canton, MI) had the Cardinals' first shot on goal, and after several corner kicks the team broke through in the 35th minute with a goal by Noah Jankulovski (JR/Woodhaven, MI) on an assist from Steven Soboslay (SO/Chesterfield, MI).. CUAA headed to the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

Spencer Ward notched 2 saves in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half to maintain his team's lead. The Cardinals continued to attack the net as Tanguy Flachez (JR/Lyon, France) received a penalty kick opportunity that went just wide. Concordia extended the lead in the 77th minute when Anthony Tucker recorded a goal on an assist from Daniel Lynch (SR/Brampton, Ontario) to put the team up 2-0. CUAA held strong defensively and secured the victory for the shutout.

Concordia improves to 7-11 overall and 5-6 in WHAC play. The Cardinals receive the #6 seed in the conference tournament and will travel to #3 Madonna on Saturday, November 9. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
