Men's soccer drops road match against Cincinnati Christian

(Cincinnati, OH) – Concordia men's soccer went on the road Thursday evening to face off against Cincinnati Christian University. The Cardinals came in with a 2-4 overall record while the Eagles entered 3-3. CUAA struck first in the game, but Cincinnati Christian came back to earn a 3-1 victory.

Concordia took a 1-0 lead just under 2 minutes into the game. After a corner kick by Felipe Lopez (JR/Imlay City, MI) took a high bounce off the turf, a misplay by Cincinnati Christian resulted in an own goal. However, the Eagles tied the game less than 2 minutes later. Spencer Ward (SR/Rochester, MI) recorded 2 key saves in the 1st half, but Cincinnati Christian added two more goals to take the lead. The Cardinals had several chances in the CCU zone with corner kicks, but CUAA trailed 3-1 at halftime.

Marino Moraccini (SR/Shelby Township, MI) came in to play goalie in the 2nd half for Concordia, making a save in the 63rd minute. The Cardinals kept up pressure on the Eagles, led by Anthony Tucker (SR/Canton, MI) who reached a team-high 7 shots in the game. While CUAA continued to keep play mostly in the offensive zone, the Eagles hung on to hand the Cardinals a 3-1 loss.

Concordia will begin WHAC conference play in their next game when they host Cornerstone on Saturday, September 28. The game is scheduled to start at 3pm in what will be a double header with the women playing at Noon.
