Missouri Baptist spoils Cardinals home opener 3-1

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's soccer held their home opener on Monday afternoon when they played host to Missouri Baptist. Both teams came into the contest looking to claim their second win of the year. The Cardinals had many promising chances, but the Spartans were able to pull ahead to hand CUAA a 3-1 loss.

Missouri Baptist struck first with a goal in the 19th minute to take an early lead. The Cardinals had a great opportunity to tie the game when Anthony Tucker (SR/Canton, MI) received a penalty kick in the 33rd minute, but Tucker's shot rang off the right post. Goalkeeper Spencer Ward (SR/Rochester, MI) recorded 7 of his 10 saves in the 1st half alone, but Missouri Baptist added another marker to go up 2-0 at halftime.

The Spartans scored just over a minute into the 2nd half to take a 3-0 lead. Concordia continued to fight on offense, and the team was rewarded when Anthony Tucker notched his 3rd goal of the season off an assist from Boris Illic (JR/Clinton Township, MI). While the Cardinals were able to break the shutout, Missouri Baptist hung on to claim the 3-1 victory.

Concordia will remain at home for their next game on Sunday, September 8 against the University of the Cumberlands. The game is set to begin at 12pm.
