Men's soccer posts 5-0 shutout at Carlow

(Pittsburgh, PA) – Concordia men's soccer took a long trip across the midwest to Pennsylvania, facing off against Carlow University on Saturday morning. The Cardinals entered the game 1-4 overall while Carlow came in just 0-1 on the young season. CUAA dominated offensively in the contest, claiming a 5-0 shutout win.

The Cardinals took an early lead when Anthony Tucker (SR/Canton, MI) scored a goal in the 6th minute with Boris Illic (JR/Clinton Township, MI) drawing the assist. Concordia continued to keep the pressure in the Carlow zone, generating shots and corner kick opportunities. CUAA extended their lead to 2-0 when Jordan Whitt (SR/Livonia, MI) scored a penalty kick goal in the 31st minute. Spencer Ward (SR/Rochester, MI) notched 2 saves in the 1st half and the Cardinals led 2-0 at halftime.

Marino Morracini came in to play goalkeeper for Concordia in the 2nd half, making a save just 2 minutes in. The Cardinals continued to find success on offense when Anthony Soboslay tapped in a goal off an assist from Anthony Tucker to make it a 3-0 game. The duo converted again in the 64th minute when Soboslay scored off a cross from Tucker.

Concordia was able to make five substitutions in the 75th minute. Cardinals scored again after a corner kick by Brandon Miotke (SR/Dearborn Heights, MI) set the ball up in front of the net. Christian Margilaj (SO/Clinton Twp, MI) recorded the goal with Derek McComas (JR/St. Clair, MI) drawing the assist, making it a commanding 5-0 lead for CUAA. The score would hold up as time expired and the Cardinals earned the shutout win.

Concordia improves to 2-4 overall with the victory. The Cardinals will play their next match on Wednesday, September 19 when the team travels to Cincinnati Christian. The game is set to begin at 7pm.
