No. 9 Cardinals fall to NCAA DII Ashland 15-11

(Ashland, OH) - Concordia women's lacrosse continued their season with a road game at NCAA Division II Ashland University.  The Cardinals came in 1-0 on the year after defeating Indiana Tech in their season opener.  CUAA hung tough with the Eagles, playing to a tie after the first half, but Ashland pulled away in the second half for a 15-10 win.

 

Amanda Archer started in goal, making 6 saves in the contest.  The Eagles scored first, but Greyson Papp tied the game at the 22:41 mark on a free position shot.  Concordia continued on the attack and Cassandra Allard ran in from the left side to put the team up 2-1.

 

The Eagles responded with three straight goals until Cassandra Allard added her second marker of the game.  Nicole Bordo added a powerplay goal, Madisyn Fox scored on a free position shot, and Cassandra Allard completed her hat trick to tie the game.  Jennifer Miller notched a go-ahead goal to put CUAA up 7-6, but the Eagles tied the game with 3 seconds remaining heading into halftime.

 

Ashland scored five straight goals to retake the lead in the second half.  Jennifer Miller ended the run with her second goal of the game.  Concordia women's basketball standout Katie Snow scored her first career lacrosse goal as the Cardinals kept battling late in the contest.

 

Ashland tacked on 2 more goals as the half wound down.  Cassandra Allard scored her fourth goal of the game on a free position shot, but the Eagles were able to claim the 15-10 win as time expired.
