Lundy's game-winner lifts women's lacrosse over Siena Heights 15-14

(Adrian, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse traveled to rival Siena Heights on Wednesday night, facing off in a WHAC contest under the lights.  The #9 Cardinals entered 1-0 on the year while Siena Heights came in 2-1 and receiving votes in the national poll.  CUAA overcame an early 10-3 deficit with 9 unanswered goals to take the lead in the 2nd half.  Alyssa Lundy's 5th goal of the match with 1:23 remaining clinched a 15-14 victory in the rivalry game.

 

Alyssa Lundy led the Cardinals with 5 goals in the game.  Cassandra Allard added 4 goals in the contest.  Jennifer Miller had a team-high 8 draw controls and 4 ground balls.

 

Amanda Archer recorded a total of 4 saves between the pipes for Concordia.  Cassandra Allard opening scoring in the game with a goal just under a minute in.  Alyssa Lundy spun away from her defender and added a goal for an early 2-0 CUAA lead.  However, Siena Heights began to pick up momentum with 7 unanswered goals, taking a 7-2 lead with 13:34 to play in the first half.

 

Taylor Nesbitt ended the run by running the length of the field and firing a shot in the net.  The Saints tacked on three more goals, but Alyssa Lundy notched her second goal of the game to begin a 3-0 CUAA run late in the half.  Lundy completed her hat trick and Cassandra Allard added a shorthanded goal on a free position shot with 2:14 remaining.  Concordia trailed 10-6 at halftime.

 

Greyson Papp fired a quick shot in the net to start a 6-0 run in the second half.   Alyssa Lundy recorded her fourth goal of the game and Cassandra Allard finished off her hat trick.  Madisyn Fox tied the game 10-10 with a goal after several quick passes.

 

Katie Snow notched the go-ahead goal on the power play with 23:20 remaining, using her speed to create an opening through the defense.  Nicole Bordo tacked on a free position goal to give the Cardinals a 12-10 advantage.

 

Siena Heights ended the run with a powerplay goal, but Nicole Bordo scored a shorthanded goal with a quick shot from the right side.  However, Siena Heights recorded three unanswered goals to take a 14-13 advantage with 4:10 left in the game.

 

Cassandra Allard tied the game just 20 seconds later, curling in from the left side of the net and scoring.  As time wound down, Alyssa Lundy would play the hero with 1:23 remaining.  Lundy ran from behind the net, spun away from her defender and stuffed in the game-winning goal.  CUAA's defense held strong in the final minute and the team secured the 15-14 win.

 

Concordia will play their next game at Aquinas on Saturday, March 27 at 3pm.
