No. 8 Cardinals cruise in 26-0 shutout win over Lourdes

(Sylvania, OH) – No. 8 Concordia women's lacrosse went on the road Wednesday evening to face Lourdes in WHAC conference play.  The Cardinals came in 4-1 overall while the Gray Wolves entered 0-2.  CUAA came out with an explosive offense and set a new school record for goals in a game with a dominant 26-0 shutout.

 

Alyssa Lundy and Greyson Papp tied for the team lead with 4 goals apiece.  Cassandra Allard, Madisyn Fox and Nicole Bordo each notched 3 goals.  Isabella Komarowski, Madisyn Fox, and Taylor Nesbitt all tied for a team-high 5 ground balls.  Jennifer Miller led the team with 10 draw controls.  Katie Snow forced a team-high 3 caused turnovers.

 

Amanda Archer started in goal for Concordia.  Cassandra Allard opened scoring with the first goal of the game.  Greyson Papp tallied next with Allard drawing the assist followed by a goal from Alyssa Lundy at the 22:12 mark.  Nicole Bordo found the back of the net off a Lundy assist to make it a 4-0 lead.

 

Alyssa Lundy scored a shorthanded goal for her second marker and then completed her hat trick with 13:28 remaining.  Taylor Nesbitt got on the scoresheet just 23 seconds later for a 7-0 lead.  Madisyn Fox recorded two straight goals and Jennifer Miller pushed the lead to double digits at the 10:12 mark.

 

Madisyn Fox continued the onslaught with her second goal and Greyson Papp converted on the power play.  Cassandra Allard finished her hat trick with two straight goals and Greyson Papp completed her hat trick as well with 2:43 remaining.  CUAA held a commanding 15-0 lead at halftime.

 

Rachel Costello came in to play goalie in the second half for the Cardinals.  Alyssa Lundy made her second goal and Greyson Papp notched her 4th of the game on a free position shot.  Nicole Bordo scored two straight goals to finish up her hat trick and Taylor Nesbitt's second marker made it a 20-0 lead.

 

Katie Snow got on the scoresheet and Jennifer Miller converted her second goal of the game with 11:08 remaining.  A historic moment occurred at the 8:45 mark as Amanda Archer moved to offense and scorer her first career goal off an assist from Katie Snow.

 

Yasmin Saraiva-Meissner had her second chance this season to play on offense and converted with a free position goal.  Madalyn Fields recorded a goal at the 5:12 mark after winning the faceoff and running the length of the field to score.

 

One last bit of history was made with 2:36 remaining when Megan Soop scored her first career goal, giving CUAA a new single-game program record with their 26th goal of the contest.  Aaliyah James had a late chance on a free position shot which was saved by the Lourdes goalie, but CUAA earned the 26-0 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will end their regular season with two home games next week. The Cardinals will host Madonna on Wednesday and Indiana Tech next Friday.
