No. 8 Cardinals overpower Aquinas 16-3

(Grand Rapids, MI) – The #8 Concordia women's lacrosse team continued WHAC conference play with a trip to Aquinas on Saturday afternoon.  Both teams entered the game with 2-1 overall records on the year.  CUAA started converting on offense early and claimed a double-digit win with a 16-3 victory.

 

Nicole Bordo led the team with 4 goals.  Alyssa Lundy, Greyson Papp, and Jennifer Miller all recorded hat tricks with 3 goals apiece.  Cassandra Allard helped to set up the offense with 4 assists and a team-high 4 ground balls.  Madalyn Fields dominated the faceoff circle with 9 draw controls.

 

Amanda Archer started in goal for Concordia, making 3 saves.  Nicole Bordo opened scoring in the game just under 3 minutes into the game.  Jennifer Miller scored just 20 seconds later on a free position shot for a 2-0 lead.

 

Both teams traded defensive stops with Amanda Archer making a save.  Nicole Bordo scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot at the 14:42 mark and then completed her hat trick off a pass from Jennifer Miller.  Miller added a free position goal to get herself on the scoreboard.

 

Alyssa Lundy added her first tally of the game for a 6-0 lead.  Aquinas broke the shutout with a goal, but the Cardinals capitalized on extra-man opportunities with Madison Fox and Taylor Nesbitt scoring on free position shots.  Fox notched a second goal and Greyson Papp found the back of the net before halftime, giving CUAA a 10-1 lead.

 

Nicole Bordo scored her 4th goal of the game in the first minute of the second half.  Greyson Papp notched a powerplay goal for her second tally and then later completed her hat trick.  Aquinas scored 2 more goals, but Jennifer Miller was able to counter with a marker to finish off her hat trick.

 

Rachel Costello came in to play goalie for the Cardinals in the last 11 minutes of the game.  Alyssa Lundy completed her hat trick as the minutes continued to wind down in the second half.  Concordia's defense remained strong and the team was able to secure the 16-3 victory.

 

Concordia will play their home opener on Wednesday, March 31 when they host Lawrence Tech at 3pm.
