WHAC announces women's lacrosse awards; Jennifer Miller named WHAC Defensive Player of the Year

 The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced their women's lacrosse season awards on Wednesday afternoon. Several Cardinals were honored for their success both on and off the court contributing to the team's most successful season in program history. Jennifer Miller highlighted the Cardinals honors being named WHAC Defensive Player of the Year.  

 

Four Cardinals were named to the first team led by junior midfielder Jennifer Miller. Miller anchored the Cardinals defense and possession game. Miller tied for the team lead with 55 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. She was second on the team with 26 ground balls. In all three of these categories, Miller ranked among the top five in the WHAC. She was also recognized three times this year as the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week. Miller was named to the second team after her freshman season.

 

Joining Miller with first team honors were Alyssa Lundy, Katie Snow, and Madlyn Fields. Lundy paced the Cardinals deep offensive attack with team high 33 goals which also ranked 8th most in the WHAC. Snow made an immediate impact for the Cardinals in her first year with a team best 17 caused turnovers which also ranked 8th most in the WHAC. Madalyn Fields also earned first team honors for the first time in her career. Fields anchored Cardinals draw control responsibilities and tied for Miller with the team high of 55. She also recorded 16 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers.

 

Three Cardinals veterans that have been instrumental in leading the program's growth and success were named to the second team. Cassandra Allard, Greyson Papp, and Taylor Nesbitt were named were all honored for the first time in their successful careers. Allard recorded 20 goals and a team high 34 assists. The 34 assists were also a career high and ranked 8th most in the WHAC. Senior standout Greyson Papp continued to show her versatility. She recorded 20 goals including a career high 5 in the team season opener against Indiana Tech. Junior Taylor Nesbitt made positive contributions on both sides of the field. The midfield posted solid numbers across the board 9 goals, 8 assists, 22 ground balls, and caused 13 turnovers. She recorded a team best shot percentage of 85.7%

 

The WHAC honors athletes through the All-Academic team for those student-athletes of junior academic status having atleast a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Qualifying for the Cardinals this season were Madalyn Fields and Jennifer Miller.

 

The WHAC prioritizes the NAIA's core values of respect, integrity, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. In celebration of these core values the WHAC honors representatives from each sport that epitomize these core values and their respective institutions. Madalyn Fields was named Concordia's recipient of the Champions of Character.
