SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Lacrosse preps for 2023 Season

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse has been preparing to start the 2023 season.  The Cardinals will look to build off a 6-10 season last year and aim to return to the WHAC playoffs.  2nd-year head coach Autumn Moore will return to the helm, bringing back 14 returners with 7 newcomers.

 

2022 Season Review

Concordia finished 6-10 with a 4-5 record in the WHAC.  The Cardinals downed William Penn 21-10 for their first win of the year.  The team racked up a 3-game winning streak over Calvin, Rochester, and rival Siena Heights.  The Cards also defeated Lourdes and Cleary in WHAC play.

 

2023 Schedule Outlook

The Cardinals will open the 2023 season against Missouri Western on February 24 at Northern Michigan.  The team will play against Northern Michigan the following day to round out the month.

Concordia plays Tennessee Wesleyan and Cumberlands on March 11 and 13.  WHAC conference play starts at Bethel on March 18.  The Cardinals will hold their home opener on March 22 against Marian.  The team heads on the road to finish the month at (RV) Indiana Tech, Adrian, and #2 Lawrence Tech.

Two ranked home games start the month of April versus rival #10 Siena Heights and #9 Aquinas.  After traveling to Madonna and Lourdes, the Cardinals conclude the regular season at home on April 15 against Rochester.

 

Concordia Personnel

Senior Nicole Bordo leads all returners with 28 goals last season along with 10 assists.  Senior Taylor Nesbitt returns after notching 25 goals and 13 assists last year.  Senior Madisyn Fox scored 19 goals with 2 assists.  Senior Adrianna Rugiero had 2 goals along with 21 ground balls.  Senior Aaliyah James returns after redshirting last season.

Junior goalie Rachel Costello recorded 4 wins along with 104 saves.  Junior Isabella Komarowski notched 19 goals and 5 assists.  Junior Taylor Armstrong recorded 7 goals last season.  Junior Megan Soop scored 3 goals with an assist.

Sophomore goaltender Peyton Long had 2 wins and 20 saves on the year.  Sophomore Katelynn Lawson scored 7 goals with an assist.  Sophomore Alana Mortimer had 3 goals and an assist with 35 ground balls.  Sophomore Anna Kordyzon had a goal and 2 assists.  Sophomore Skylar Negri saw action in 5 goals with a draw control.

The Cardinals have added 7 newcomers: junior Tara Drinane, sophomore Molly Burks, and freshmen Madelyne Petrie, Kylie Hower, Michaela Ullery, Sara Kaczmarek, and Savanna Schmidt.

Head coach Autumn Moore is joined by assistant coach Brad Ashby and student assistants Haley Beam and Sabrina Lee.
