Women's Lacrosse loses season opener to Missouri Western

(Marquette, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse headed up north for a neutral site contest to kick off the season against the Missouri Western Griffons. The Cardinals picked up a pair of goals in the second quarter, but would fall to the Griffons, 24-2. 

 

Tara Drinane and Nicole Bordo scored for CUAA. Katelynn Lawson recorded a team high 3 ground balls and a trio of Cardinals forced turnovers in the effort.

 

Rachel Costello and Michaela Ullery split time in goal, combining for 6 saves. Missouri Western started the game quickly, taking a 10-0 lead after the opening quarter of play. The Griffons added two more goals to open the second frame of play, before Nicole Bordo scored the first Cardinal goal of the season (assist by Madisyn Fox). Just over two minutes later, Tara Drinane picked up her first career goal off an assist by Isabella Komarowski. Missouri Western recorded two more goals before the break, making it a 14-2 game heading into halftime. 

 

 

Missouri Western would dominate the second half, outshooting the Cards 12-1 in the 30 minutes and outscoring them 10-0 in that time period, securing a victory for the Griffons by the score of 24-2. 

 

The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow, February 27th as they take on Northern Michigan. Game time is set for noon at the Superior Dome in Marquette, MI.
