Women's Lacrosse drops matchup with #RV Marian

(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Concordia women's lacrosse team played on Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium for the first time this season, hosting their home opener against the #RV Marian Knights in a WHAC matchup. The Knights took control of the game early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead at the end of the 1st and scoring the first 7 goals of the contest overall, riding their hefty advantage to an eventual 17-5 victory.

Taylor Armstrong led the Cardinals with a pair of goals, while Madisyn Fox and Katelyn Lawson picked up a goal and an assist, each. Rachel Costello started in net, making 12 saves for CUAA. Adrianna Rugiero had a team-high 8 ground balls.

The Knights opened the first quarter with a goal just a minute into the contest to pick up an early lead. Concordia would hold their offense off for a while, but after a Marian goal at the 8:28 mark to double the lead, the floodgates opened, resulting in 4 more Knight goals and a 6-0 lead at the end of the opening frame.

After another Marian goal early in the second quarter, Taylor Armstrong scored from a Free Position Shot, followed by a Madisyn Fox goal (assisted by Katelynn Lawson) at the 10:09 mark to cut the deficit to five goals. After a few goalless minutes, the Knights would respond to the Cardinal run with four more goals of their own (including two down a player), before an unassisted Nicole Bordo goal took the sides into break with the score 11-3 in favor of Marian.

The Knights would continue to control the game in the second half, scoring five goals while on the advantage throughout the third quarter, taking a 16-3 lead into the final frame of play. CUAA responded with Taylor Armstrong's second goal (Madisyn Fox assist) of the game and Katelynn Lawson scoring with 11:49 to go, but Marian would score the final time in the contest at the 10:01 mark, securing a 17-5 win.

The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday, March 25th, when they are back on the road for a matchup against #RV Indiana Tech. Game time is set for 12pm at the Warrior Athletic Field in Fort Wayne, IN.
