Fox and Bordo lead Women's Lacrosse in comeback over Tennessee Wesleyan

(Athens, TN) – Women's lacrosse traveled to Athens, Tennessee to take on the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. It took a comeback effort from Concordia, but the team was able to come away with a 14-9 win. Madisyn Fox led the charge with five goals, and Nicole Bordo chipped in with three goals of her own. Taylor Nesbitt and Alana Mortimer added two assists each for the only assists of the game for the Cardinals.

 

The first quarter was filled with scoring, as eight goals would be scored. The first of which would be netted by Fox, her first of five. Less than a minute later Tennessee Wesleyan would tie the score with a goal from Olivia Downey. Although the Bulldogs would tack on four more goals, Fox and Katelynn Lawson would add goals for the Cardinals. The score at the end of the first quarter would be 5-3 in favor of the Bulldogs.

 

The second quarter would be much quieter. Concordia would draw even in the first 8 minutes of the frame with goals from Alana Mortimer and Lawson. Tennessee Wesleyan would grab the lead back thanks to Olivia Ritter's goal in the final six minutes of the half. That lead would carry into halftime by the tune of 6-5. 

 

The Cardinals would start the third quarter with a bang, as Nicole Bordo would score the first of her three goals of the game and the quarter. The goal would come within a minute of the period starting. The Bulldogs would score two more goals to gain the lead back, but the Cards were then able to put up four unanswered scores by Bordo (twice), Mortimer, and Isabella Komarowski in the final eight minutes of the frame. Concordia would surge out to a 10-8 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

 

The Cards would use a steady pace of goal scoring in the final frame to outscore the Bulldogs 4-1. Concordia's defense solidified even further in the fourth quarter, especially during the final seven minutes of the contest. Anna Kordyzon would score the first goal of the quarter, while Madisyn Fox would score her final three goals of the game to close out the contest to make the final score 14-9.

 

Michaela Ullery (1-2) saved 10 out of 19 shots and picked up her first win of the young season for the Cards. Rylee Brendlinger (0-7) would save 12 out of 26 shots and would pick up the loss for the Bulldogs.

 

The Cardinals will continue their travels as they head to Williamsburg, Kentucky to face off against the Cumberlands Patriots. The game is scheduled to start Monday at 2:00 PM.
