Cardinals take down IU-East 4-1

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer continued non-conference play on Saturday afternoon when they hosted Indiana-University East. The Cardinals came into the contest 1-1 overall while the Red Wolves entered 1-0. IU-East scored the first goal of the game, but CUAA stormed back with four unanswered goals to claim a 4-1 victory.

Samantha Golchuk (JR/Garden City, MI) led the offensive effort with 2 goals, 1 assist and 4 shots on goal in the game. Kiera Savage (FR/Canton, MI) and Amay Ciszewski (SO/Byron, MI) also found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Anna Roman (FR/Carleton, MI) recorded 8 saves in the contest.

IU-East scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute to take an early 1-0 lead. However, the Cardinals quickly tied the game just over 6 minutes later when Samantha Golchuk scored on a break off a feed from Victoria Tenzy (SR/Taylor, MI) down the left flank. Concordia took their first lead of the game in the 34th minute when Golchuk scored her 2nd goal, tapping a ball over the goalie with Madeline Mueller (SR/Bixby, OK) drawing the assist on a long ball. CUAA held a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Concordia extended their lead just two minutes into the 2nd half on a goal by Kiera Savage. Savage checked into the match at the 46:47 mark and scored just 11 seconds later off an assist from Isabel Stropich (FR/Brighton, MI). Anna Roman made several critical saves in the 2nd half to keep CUAA in front.

Amay Ciszewski tacked on another marker in the 78th minute with Samantha Golchuk drawing the assist. The Cardinals made multiple substitutions late in the game, allowing some of the team's bench players to get important playing time. Concordia held strong defensively for the rest of the game for a 4-1 win.

CUAA improves to 2-1 overall with the victory. The Cardinals will play a significant non-conference match on Monday, September 2 when they travel to #3-ranked Spring Arbor for a night game. The contest is scheduled to start at 7pm.
