Crusaders shutout Cardinals 1-0

(Livonia, MI) – On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, Concordia women's soccer continued WHAC play when the team traveled to Madonna. The Cardinals entered 4-3 overall while the Crusaders came in 6-1-1 on the year. CUAA continued to fight throughout the game, but Madonna's 1st half goal held up to hand Concordia a 1-0 loss.

Samantha Golchuk (JR/Garden City, MI) recorded the Cardinals' first shot on goal in the 10th minute. Goalkeeper Anna Roman (FR/Carleton, MI) recorded 2 of her 4 saves in the 1st half, but Madonna scored in the 38th minute to take the lead. Concordia continued to attack the net with corner kicks taken by Kendra Lewis (FR/Waterford, MI) and Megan Starkey (FR/Macomb, MI). CUAA trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Anna Roman made a save just 20 seconds into the 2nd half to keep the Cardinals within a goal. Samantha Golchuk and Mackenzie Rahn (SO/Anchor Bay, MI) took shots on net for Concordia, but the game still remained a tight defensive battle. Kendra Lewis and Megan Starkey took shots late in the half that were just wide of the goal, and Madonna held on to claim the 1-0 win.

Concordia will play their next match on Saturday, October 5 when the team travels to Lawrence Tech. The match will be played under the lights at 7:30pm.
